Nubie was my first Ridgeback. The day he came home was the beginning of a new way of life. You see, the Rhodesian Ridgeback is a way of life! Like it or not, they consume you (in a nice way of course) they take over your house, your bed, but most of all – your heart. I wouldn’t swap my breed for the world.
I started showing Nubie in 1986, he was a real showman. He gained his Australian Champion title in 1990. Nubie enjoyed great success in the show ring, winning Best In Show, multiple Best In Group, Class in Group and Class In Show awards. He won Best of Breed at the Royal Adelaide Show 1990. Nubie also won the South Australian Pointscore Trophy for 2 consecutive years in 1990/91 and 1991/92.
Nubie also did obedience. He achieved his Endurance Test title in 1989. I did try and trial him but he was a great one for lagging off lead so he was always marked down and never made the points. He was a very obedient dog all the same, just not in the obedience ring!
His real loves were playing in the forest, body surfing (he always had spectators admiring his style) and getting as many cuddles as possible! He had a happy long life and will never be forgotten.
