Ice passed away on the 23rd of September 2008 in my arms after aspirating his morning drink of water into his lungs 🙁 He didn’t quite make it to his 13th birthday but fortunately Spice did and actually made 14 !! He was and will always be my “Iceman” my much loved favourite. Ice is back home now taking pride of place with the rest of his pack, where he belongs.
Ice has progeny around Australia, also in Canada, South Africa, Finland and the Czech Republic.. We wish all his babies well for a long and happy future.
Although Ice (Iceman, Monkey or Food Freak as he is known to his close friends) did enjoy showing – when it’s wasnt’ too hot that is, his favourite time is that spent chasing bunnies, swimming at the beach and playing with his friends, oh yes – and of course eating and sleeping – after all he is a Ridgeback !!
Ice made his mark in the show ring with several Runner Up Best In Group and Class In Show wins (championship shows) including Intermediate In Show at the 4th National Rhodesian Ridgeback Champ Show in January 1998 and Runner Up In Show and Best Headed Dog at the RRCSA Open Show in October 1997. Ice won Best of Breed at the Royal Adelaide Show on 9th September, 1999 under Mr. Ramon Podesta from Chile. Ice gained his Endurance Trial title in June, 1999.
26th March, 2000 Ice was Best In Show at the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Victoria Specialty Champ Show under Breed specialist judge Mrs. Anna Lane. He was also awarded Best Headed dog and Best Gaited dog.
On 30th April, 2000 Ice was awarded his second Championship Specialty win with Best In Show at the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Western Australia under breed specialist judge Ms. Patrice Johansen from Queensland. He was also awarded Best Gaited dog and Best Gait overall.
On 17th March, 2001 Ice won his third Best In Show at the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of South Australia Inc. under breed specialist Jane Armatys from Tasmania. He was also awarded Best Headed dog and Sire & Progeny.
At the Easter Show Circuit 2002 – South East – South Australia finally won the “Border Shield” after many years of a drought (Victoria held the trophy)- Ice was awarded the Chisinga Trophy for the highest scoring Ridgeback over the 4 days of shows.
In 2004 at the 7th Rhodesian Ridgeback National – at the age of 8 – Ice was awarded 3rd in Open dog from a large class of dogs.
